ISO 24896 Notation for business reporting

ISO 24896 establishes a consistent notation for business communication with written reports, live presentations, and analytic dashboards. It specifies requirements for the visual appearance of recurring aspects such as the labelling of content, the layout of charts and tables, the representation of data values, as well as the visualization of their characteristics.

ISO 24896 published

After unanimously passing the enquiry phase with ISO member bodies worldwide, ISO 24896 was published on June 11, 2026: ISO 24896 Press Release.

Roots in IBCS notation

ISO 24896 is based on suggestions for consistent business reporting notation developed by the International Business Communication Standards (IBCS) Association (mainly the UNIFY and CHECK parts of IBCS’ SUCCESS formula). They have been successfully used in practice for many years.
